Microsoft Release the "Protect your PC - Three Steps"
Microsoft have recently released information on how to protect a PC from vulnerabilities in three easy steps. Operating specific steps are outlined at the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/
These three steps, while being nothing new, help to spread the security word to the those who might not be taking the proper steps to protect themselves out there,
Boiled down, the three steps are:
- Use an Internet firewall
- Get the updates using Automatic Update
- Install and update your antivirus software
Simple, but sadly all too often overlooked, steps that can dramatically improve your PC security.
Two steps that I'd add are:
- Create and use effective passwords to protect your resources and files
- Make regular backups of your data
By taking these additional steps the damage caused by any security issue is kept to a minimum.
And Mac users can stop gloating too - there's a site outlining what they should be doing too over at Apple security site.
